9 Tips for Asking Questions

As catechists, one of the most effective tools we have is asking questions. Jesus was, of course, a master at this skill. Often in the Gospels, we find Jesus utilizing questions to challenge his followers and stimulate their thinking: “But who do you say that I am?” (Mark 8:29) “Whose image is this and whose inscription?” (Matthew 22:20) “Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” (Luke 2:49) “Which is easier, […]

Remembering Why I Drive 30 Minutes to Go to Mass on Sunday

Recently, my wife and I got in the car to drive to church for Sunday Mass. We typically make this half-hour journey each week even though we have a half-dozen parishes within 10 minutes of our home! Why? Because we’re liturgical snobs! Seriously though, our experience of the local parishes has been mediocre at best, with liturgy celebrated (I hesitate to even use that word) in a very perfunctory manner. We typically seek 3 things: […]

I’m Back!

I’m back from vacation and ready to rock and roll! (Must be that stop at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland while on vacation! BTW, one of the most interesting things to see there is the diversity of visitors – saw a kid with a mohawk haircut standing next to an elderly person in a wheelchair, observing an exhibit…very cool!) Day 15 Chuckles

While I’m on vacation until late July, I thought it’d be fun to share some of my favorite jokes from my books, A Well-Built Faith and The Bible Blueprint. Here’s today’s contribution: A catechist asked her class to draw pictures of their favorite Bible stories. He was puzzled by Sandy’s picture, which showed four people on […]

Day 14 Chuckles

All work and no play makes this catechist a dull boy. So I’m getting some much needed R & R! While I’m on vacation until late July, I thought it’d be fun to share some of my favorite jokes from my books, A Well-Built Faith and The Bible Blueprint. Day 13 Chuckles

All work and no play makes this catechist a dull boy. So I’m getting some much needed R & R! While I’m on vacation until late July, I thought it’d be fun to share some of my favorite jokes from my books, A Well-Built Faith and The Bible Blueprint. Here’s today’s contribution: Four brothers left home for college and they each became financially well off. Some years later, they discussed the gifts they were able to […]
