4th Grade Assessment

It’s hard to believe that I only have 2 more classes left (plus a closing session with a prayer service) this year! With that in mind, it’s time for a review and a final formal assessment. With my DRE’s approval, I’ve put together the following assessment which covers the major ideas that we focused on this year, especially the 7 Sacraments and the 10 Commandments.

Before giving the assessment, I plan to do some review activities with the kids to “prime the pump” and refresh their memories on these key concepts. I’ll also use that time to make sure that they understand the meanings of the key terms that the assessment asks them to recall. If all goes as planned, I’ll feel confident sending these kids on to their 5th grade catechist next year!

  1. I teach Confirmation (8th and 9th graders) and we just took our end of the year assessment last night. I think they did fairly well. I have a few kids who just don’t care, but those that try did well. I think I get as nervous as they do for the test!

I ordered a few of your books (Catechist’s Toolbox and Well-Built Faith) they arrived today. Just wanted to say thanks for your work! I’ve been skimming through the Catechist’s Toolbox today and love it!

    • Thanks, Christian. I think it covers a lot of information without being overly-demanding. Sure, I would like them to be able to recall the 7 Sacraments and 10 Commandments completely from memory (and I think many could), but I think it best at this level to provide them with answers to select from or just a few blanks to fill in. In the 8th grade assessment, we had them recall those completely from memory.

  2. Thank you to all involved for this great assessment for 4th Grade. I love it and I am going to share it with my catechists who teach 4th grade. This gives me a great idea since we are using Sadlier to do the same for Grades 1 through 6 – may be even 7 and 8 grades. Thank you again and God bless you.
