More From Los Angeles Religious Education Conference 2012

I had a great experience delivering a presentation on Practice Makes Catholic yesterday to about 1000 people here at the L.A. Religious Education Conference! It was very exciting to speak to a crowd that big! Thanks to all who came out to make this such a wonderful experience. Here’s a pic of HALF the room before it filled up with folks.

After my presentation, I had an encounter with someone who made the “soup nazi” (from Seinfeld)  look like Mr. Rogers.  Right after my talk, workers began immediately breaking down the ballroom for the next event. I was busy talking to people who attended my presentation as I was packing up my stuff. In the background I heard a woman barking directions over the microphone. After just a few minutes, I turned to leave when the woman, about 20 feet away from me, on the microphone says, “SIR DO NOT ENTER THIS SIDE OF THE BALLROOM!” I smiled and said, “OK but do you need to chastise me on the microphone?” She replied on the microphone, “SIR, I’VE BEEN MAKING THIS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE LAST 5 MINUTES!! DO NOT ENTER THIS SIDE OF THE BALLROOM!!!” I’m pretty sure that the spiritual work of mercy called “admonish the sinner” was not intended to be carried out over a microphone for all to hear!
Anyway, on a happier note, here I am pictured with friend and fellow author/speaker Fr. Jim Martin, SJ.

  1. I attended your talk at congress and you recommended a book by Rumer Goodwin or was it Rumer Godden? Am I even close?

I loved your presentation. It was very thought provoking and beneficial.
