Information is now available about Catechetical Sunday, September 18, 2011, with a theme of Do This in Memory of Me. It’s never too early to start planning!
Materials for Catechetical Sunday 2011 are available online in English and Spanish at www.usccb.org/catecheticalsunday/. Catechetical Sunday 2011 is September 18, and its theme is “Do This in Memory of Me.” You can order your Catechetical Sunday materials from NCCL. Watch for details.
“By reflecting on this theme, we are also preparing to receive the Third Typical Edition of the Roman Missal,” said Bishop Richard J. Malone of Portland, Maine, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis. “These materials will provide the opportunity not only to reflect on the beauty and mystery of the Eucharist, as found in the Scriptures and the Tradition of the Church, but also to be moved to a more intense participation in the Sunday celebration of Mass, worthy reception of Holy Communion, and a more intentional embrace of the Church’s sacramental life and mission.”
Materials available for free online include a reflection on the Eucharist, two catechist/teacher inservices, teaching aids on the Eucharist and Mass, bulletin inserts, family resources and an intergenerational retreat. The Catechetical Sunday website also includes numerous articles in English and Spanish and the document, “Happy Are Those Who Are Called to His Supper: On Preparing to Receive Christ Worthily in the Eucharist,” by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
