More From Los Angeles Religious Education Conference 2012

I had a great experience delivering a presentation on Practice Makes Catholic yesterday to about 1000 people here at the L.A. Religious Education Conference! It was very exciting to speak to a crowd that big! Thanks to all who came out to make this such a wonderful experience. Here’s a pic of HALF the room before it filled up with folks. After my presentation, I had an encounter with someone who made the “soup nazi” (from Seinfeld)  look […]

I Love L.A.!

I’m celebrating Catholicism California style at the annual Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, which draws about 40,000 people over four days! It is always an exciting experience. I’m thrilled to be giving a talk this afternoon and I’ve met so many wonderful people in just the few hours I’ve been here. I’ll tell you more about it as the weekend goes along. Here are a couple of pics. Here I am enjoying dinner in Downtown […]

Terrific Time in Tucson!

I had the most wonderful weekend in Tucson, AZ, speaking at their catechetical conference Co-Workers in the Vineyard. First, it was wonderful because my wife, Joanne, was able to travel with me for once and we got a chance to visit with her sister, nieces, and god-daughter. Second, it was wonderful because we got to see Bishop Gerald Kicanas who hired me right out of college to teach at the high school seminary almost 30 […]

A Different Kind of Big MAC!

I had a great time at the MAC (Mid Atlantic Congress) conference in Baltimore this past week and enjoyed numerous opportunities to meet and talk to so many wonderful people. Thanks to all the people who worked so hard to make this conference such a success, especially the Association of Catholic Publishers. For me, the highlights were: getting a chance to listen to Fr. Jim Martin, SJ, once again and to chat with him […]

Mid-South Catholic Leadership Conference – Lake Barkley, KY

One of the perks of traveling is, in addition to meeting so many wonderful people, visiting some beautiful locations around the country. Today, I had the privilege of speaking at the Mid-South Catholic Leadership Conference held at Lake Barkley, KY (about 90 minutes south of Nashville, TN). Indeed, I got to spend time with some wonderful catechetical leaders, catechists, diocesan staff, (and even a bishop in the audience!) but I also got to enjoy the […]

Thank You, Green Bay!

No, I’m not thanking Green Bay for anything the Packers have done recently! I’m sending my sincere thanks to all the good folks up there who hosted a couple of wonderful catechetical events that they invited me to speak at. On Wednesday, October 26, I spent the evening with about 250 catechists in Appleton, WI, talking about The Catechist’s Toolbox. What an outstanding turnout! The next day, I spent the morning with about 75 catechetical […]

Thank You Seattle!

I spend a wonderful weekend in Seattle with about 100 catechists looking at A Well Built Faith and The Catechist’s Toolbox. Thanks to all for such a great experience…I was deeply inspired by all of you!

Practice Makes Catholic in Wisconsin Rapids

I enjoyed an evening with about 100 catechists in Wisconsion Rapids, WI, on Wednesday, focusing on Practice Makes Catholic and our Catholic identity. The folks who hosted the event went out of their way to make sure that each table had a unique centerpiece that represented various aspects of Catholic identity. Here’s an example: Thanks to all the folks who came out to spend such an enjoyable evening! BTW, here’s where I stopped for breakfast […]

Thank You Jesus – Success Teaching Roman Missal Changes to Children

Last night, I had a surprisingly good experience teaching the Roman Missal changes to ALL of the children in the religious education program at Most Holy Redeemer parish in Evergreen Park, IL, where I serve as a catechist. Here are the details: I did the presentation twice: first session (5:30 – 6:45 pm) for 1st – 4th graders and their parents (about 250 total, kids and parents); 2nd session (7:00 – 8:15 pm) for 5th – […]

Thanks to Richmond, VA!

I had a wonderful weekend in Richmond, VA, doing the keynote and a couple of workshops at their “Graced by God” conference. Thanks to Eileen Brown for arranging for me to speak and to Deacon Ed Schmidt who served as my “personal assistant” throughout the day. I immensely enjoyed meeting Ed and spending the day with him and enjoying lunch with him and his wife. Thanks Ed for your selfless diaconal service, not only to […]
