Last evening, I got together with Deb, the DRE at St. Cajetan, to do a “dry run” in preparation for next Tuesday’s Kick-Off for the Religious Education program. We had many logistics to go over such as the sound system, the lighting, the video, the music and so on. In particular, I realized that I have to practice my timing with the songs/videos that I’ll be projecting throughout the prayer service…it’s as if I’m the “DJ” for the event!
We ended up making a few tweaks but overall, things are looking good for next week’s event – the first time that the parish is beginning REP with the parents present for the entire evening as a way to begin chipping away at the “drop-off” mentality and to approach the children’s faith formation program with the primacy of adult faith formation in mind.
Here is the entire script of the evening including the prayer service: Cajetan Kick-off event final script
Here’s a pic of Deb looking over her parts in sync with the video and music that I have playing (my computer, projector, and speakers are to the left of her).

Very nice presentation. The school we teach the REP PROGRAM has no WiFi in the building. I teach a combined 3 & 4 grade and my husband teaches a combined 6 & 7 grade. It would be wonderful to have the resources you have to help teach our kids.

Fran, thanks for your comment. Nothing in this presentation requires WiFi…everything I’m showing is downloaded at home and shown from my laptop’s desktop. I find that this avoids disruptive advertisements and annoying buffering. Each of us in our own unique settings needs to adapt to our circumstances and make the best use of what’s available to us and what’s within our capacities. I’m sure you and your husband do wonderful things for the young people you teach!

Thank you for sharing this. Since we have already started, I will save this for next year. Where do you find the video on Ritual Matters?
Hi Carol and thanks for your comment. You can find the Ritual Matters video as part of the “Come and See” DVD that is part of the God’s Gift First Eucharist program. The DVD can be purchased separately for $22.95. Here is the link: http://www.loyolapress.com/gods-gift-sacramental-preparation-come-and-see-dvd-09.htm
