Moving Toward a Family Catechesis Model

reader question

More and more parishes are moving toward a family catechesis model, much like the one at St. Barnabas Parish in Chicago that I’ve been blogging about over the past few months. Moving toward a family catechesis model takes some time and a lot of communication so that parents can embrace the change more fully without their heads spinning! Most importantly, parents need to be assured that they are indeed capable of teaching their children about their Catholic faith and that the parish will accompany, support, and assist them.

I spoke about the reality of moving toward a family catechesis model in a webinar celebrating the 15th anniversary of Catechist’s Journey.

  1. Such great advice!! I’m a catechist in two parishes, both for the ‘traditional’ weekly model and family catechesis (both parishes have both available). I was part of the start-up for family catechesis at both parishes. Truly, we need to walk with parents, encourage them they can do it and be an ‘Ananias’ for them.
