What are some of the ways you are helping those you teach to respond to the crisis in Haiti?
How are you making this a catechetical moment?

seems perfect (timing, but not becuase it happened) to put into perspective the spiritual and corporal works of mercy and put them into action. something my class can relate to.
very true, Liddia, thanks!
Joe, we just posted some quick resources on the Engaging Faith blog. My thought was that students show learn more about how bad things were before Haiti to put this catastrophe in context. There is a short prayer service that can be adapted as well.

I also agree with Liddia – this puts the spiritual and corporal works of mercy in perspective.
My wife and I will be praying a rosary every night at 9pm. Other folks we know have committed to doing the same.
Jared, thanks for sharing this resource and for your thoughts.
The following came in an email from Capi in New Roads, LA:
Joe,
Catholic Relief Services has lots of information regarding the crisis in Haiti.
I just returned from our high school senior retreat. The theme of the retreat was, “We Are The Body Of Christ” a cue from the song, “If We Are The Body” by Casting Crowns. We will take this theme and challenge our faculty and students to aid the people of Haiti in whatever way possible.
Blessings,
Capi
We’ve been learning about the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and this just happened to happen during the session when we discuss how we can help those in need and what can we do. We planned a carwash to take place on Jan. 30th so we are all praying for clear sky’s and dirty cars!!! The Confirmandi are looking forward to putting into action those things they have learned during our session…..
Julie, indeed let’s pray for clear skies and dirty cars! Good luck!
We had a collection during our religious ed classes for Haiti. We prayed for the people in Haiti during our opening prayers and asked the children to bring $1, or more, to donate to CRS. Our elementary students raised $319.
Deb, God bless them and you on your efforts!
Thanks for writing such an easy-to-uenrsdtand article on this topic.
