I had the pleasure of enjoying a business lunch the other day with colleagues and friends to talk about the challenges and opportunities that Anglos encounter when catechizing in Latino culture. My Loyola Press colleague, Santiago Cortés-Sjöberg, is preparing to do a workshop on this topic at the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership in Las Vegas in April (I will also be speaking at this conference, but on a different topic…I was along for the fellowship and good food!). I contacted a couple of good friends who are DREs and who are ministering to growing Latino populations and the four of us sat down for a wonderful lunch and a couple of hours of discussion on the topic. Thanks Marge and Terry for you insights and for taking the time to share them with us!

Making the Most of Catechetical Conferences, Workshops, and Seminars
I attended my first catechetical conference when I was in high school. I was most excited about it because I was to attend with a girl from the parish that I wanted to ask out on a date; luckily, she said yes, and we’ve been married since 1982! Aside from that little romantic angle, I recall also being excited about the conference itself and felt very affirmed that the parish wanted me to attend. Fast forward […]
Wow…just this Wednesday I went to lunch with my DRE & my bouncer.
I want this to coincidence to fit into the “great minds think alike” meme:
“great minds eat alike by going out for lunch with DREs” or something like that.
I wanna hear more about this bouncer!
She’s my ‘teacher’s helper,’ who keeps the miscreants in line….velvet glove…iron fist….
The kids know her as Madame Bouncer…no kidding!
Scary!
