Last evening, my wife and I attended Holy Thursday Mass at Ascension Parish in Oak Park, IL. What a rich, beautiful, and moving experience! A profound beginning to the Triduum experience!
The Washing of the Feet is particularly profound since all in the congregation are invited to come forward and wash one another’s feet. Families often come up together to wash one another’s feet. Joanne and I take advantage of this opportunity to wash each other’s feet…very moving.
The procession of the Blessed Sacrament is very reverent and moves to the strains of Pange Lingua sung by all and accompanied by their incredible choir and musicians.
The altar of repose is beautifully decorated and worshippers remain in silence to adore the Blessed Sacrament.
Next, we continue the Holy Thursday tradition of visiting churches…this is St. Bernardine Parish in Forest Park. We also visited 4 other parishes on our way home.
