Thank You, Cleveland!

I had a wonderful couple of days in Cleveland, spending Friday with catechetical leaders and Saturday with catechists, as they kick-off their catechetical year. I was impressed and inspired by the level of enthusiasm and dedication. I was also flattered by the appreciation some people have for my books as evidenced by this picture of a catechist who brought her copy of The Catechist’s Toolbox for me to sign. She proudly showed me the tabs […]

It’s Great to Be Home!

Now that I’m back from my trips to Dallas and Hawaii, I’d like to take a bit of time to catch my breath and catch up with you on a few things. With that in mind, we’re going to take a week’s break from Stories on the Journey which has been such a wonderful experience! Thanks so much for sharing your stories and I look forward to many more during the month of July. For starters, […]

Aloha from Oahu!

I had the experience of a lifetime today, doing the keynote presentation at the Faith Formation Conference in Honolulu! It was a wonderful experience! It was the culmination of an incredible week. My wife and I have spent the past week here and have been so blessed to experience this island paradise. Tomorrow is  a full day of travel back to Chicago. When I get home, I’ll have an opportunity to fill you in on […]

A Delightful Day in Dallas!

Thanks to all the wonderful catechists in Dallas, TX, who spent the day with me on Saturday, exploring an introduction to the ministry of catechesis. We had a great time, got lots of work done, and even celebrated the Dallas Mavericks’ championship! The crowd ranged from a number of brand new catechists to a woman who was in her 50th year of being a catechist! Amazing! Thanks again to everyone for such a wonderful day! Here’s […]

My First Catechetical TweetUp!

At the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership, I attended an informal conference within th conference. It was called a TweetUp and it was organized by Jonathan Sullivan, the Director of the Catechetical Office in Springfield, IL. It was simply a gathering of Catholic bloggers and Twitter users -an opportunity to meet one another and compare notes and share stories. It was a lot of fun and very informative. Now, I guess I should start using […]

An Extraordinary Day at NCCL

Today was a most extraordinary day at the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership in Atlanta! First, the NCCL is a phenomenal opportunity to meet and mingle with some of the most innovative and successful catechetical minds (and hearts) in the United States. It is also a tight-knit group (all 600-700 of us!) so each year’s conference is like a family reunion. It is so wonderful to see and chat with peoplethat I never get to […]

From Albany to Atlanta

A great big THANK YOU to all of the good folks in Albany, NY, who participated in my workshops at the Spring Enrichment conference! We had a great time exploring ways to grow as catechists and how to make our classes more “Catholic.” After a couple of days to catch my breath, it’s off to Atlanta for the NCCL Conference where I’ll be doing a couple of presentations on catechetical leadership…always an honor to speak […]

Thanks and So Many Other Things…

First, I want to extend a great big THANK YOU to all of the people who expressed their thoughts and prayers over these last few days as we mourned the death and celebrated the life of my mother-in-law, Sophie, who passed away on Tuesday at the tender young age of 95. The funeral was a beautiful experience and it was good to be surrounded by so much love. While I was away, I hear a […]

Boasting about Boston

I had a wonderful day in the Archdiocese of Boston today, meeting with about 60 catechetical leaders for a Being, Knowing, and Doing professional development workshop. Big thanks to Susan Abbott (Director, Office of Religious Education) and Susan Kay (Assistant Director for Catechetical Leadership) for arranging the event and to all the good folks who so enthusiastically participated in this day. Congrats to your Boston Bruins for winning game 7 of their series against the Montreal Canadiens! Enjoy it now […]
