With All Saints Day just around the corner, now is a good opportunity to look at ideas for additional resources for teaching about the saints. Loyola Press has just put together four Saints Retreats for children, done in the style of the well-known and much loved 3-Minute Retreats. Each brief saints retreat is an opportunity to learn more about a particular saint, learn about that saint’s relationship with God, reflect on discussion questions about the saint, and enjoy a prayer in honor of the saint. The four Saints Retreats focus on St. Nicholas, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, and St. Andrew. Take a look: Saints Retreats for Children. Be sure to look at lots of other saints resources as well.

A Litany of Saints for All Saints Day
As you know, All Saints Day—November 1—is just a couple of weeks away! With that in mind, here is a Litany of Saints that you can use for any age group. What I like about this particular version (by John Becker) is that the people’s responses are so easy to sing. This video also provides some nice images of the saints. Check out All Saints Day resources from Loyola Press, including lesson plans, videos, and activities. […]

The Envelope Please…And the Winner is…
Of course, tonight is the big night: the Academy Awards! But that’s not the winner I’m announcing. We have a winner in our 4000th comment contest! His name is Rick Cava and he posted a comment late Friday afternoon to send the “meter” up to the 4000 mark on comments posted on my blog! Rick’s comment, ironically, was that he would prefer a retreat over a copy of my book! Sorry Rick, but I don’t […]

The Saints and Election Day
The Feast of All Saints, falling on November 1 of each year, is celebrated on the doorstep of Election Day in the United States. This annual coincidence provides us with an opportunity to make a connection between the lives of the saints and our civic duties. Pope Francis explained that “an authentic faith…always involves a deep desire to change the world, to transmit values, to leave this earth somehow better than we found it….If indeed ‘the just […]
Thank you for sharing these 3 minute retreats about the saints. I enjoyed them-they helped me start the day on a positive note.
Josie, you’re welcome. They’re nice, aren’t they?
Hi, to all. I am a catechist in Abu Dhabi and would like your 3 minute retreat for children. I want to download it to use for my Grade 5 student every morning during the entire lenten season.
Appreciate your help.

Hi Joe,
With the stay home mandate, our schools and catechism
has to be online. As a catechist, I have my kids complete their workbooks and continue learning their prayers- but we need help with the children’s retreat. Any retreats already on line that we can have the students watch? Any ideas?
Hi Elizabeth and thanks for your question. What grade level are the students and what is the retreat for (First Eucharist? First Reconciliation? Confirmation?) Let me know and I’ll see if I can find anything.
Where can I find a link to the 3 minute retreat with the saints for children? I would like to use them in my on line lessons during the pandemic. Thank you!
Judy, we’ve updated the link now, so you should be able to find the retreats using the link above or this: https://www.loyolapress.com/catholic-resources/saints/saints-activities/other-activities/spend-time-with-the-saints/.
