Catechists in Action – Steve Lascola Begins Class With Prayer

In this segment of Catechists in Action, we see 3rd grade catechist Steve Lascola’s aide leading the children in an opening prayer. Watch for the following:

  • Steve’s aide asks the children for prayers for a member of the catechetical family who has passed away and shows her own emotions over losing a friend…a very moving and appropriate witness of the love that is present in the parish family.
  • Steve welcomes the children after the prayer and tells them that “it’s good to see you” in that very genuine, matter-of-fact manner that he has when speaking to them.
  • Steve alerts the children to the fact that the Associate Pastor, Fr. Matt, will be visiting them to talk about going to confession, and asks that they show respect.

One of the suggestions I gave to Steve after visting him was to gather the children around a prayer table for their opening prayer experience. We both agreed he needed to get the children up and moving on occasion and prayer is the perfect opportunity for this.
