6th Grade Psalms

We had a very enjoyable session last evening focusing on the Psalms. In case you missed it, here is what I had planned. The kids enjoyed the opening activity of describing the emotions portrayed in a series of pictures and selecting one that best described how they felt at the moment (they almost all selected the picture that represented being tired except for one very peppy young man who said, “I’m just happy to be here!”) They really enjoyed the activity that involved listening to popular songs and connecting them with specific emotions and then connecting them with individual psalms…that was a lot of fun.

In the end, each of the children composed their own psalm based on how they felt that evening and these turned out to be delightful. Here’s a sample:

O God, I’m so tired of not being able to fall asleep at night.

You’ve always been there for me when I can’t sleep at night. You help me to fall asleep.

You are the God who never lets anyone down.

I ask you to be with me tonight when I can’t sleep. Help me to sleep for school.

Precious! Here are the rest of their psalms. (Only eight students were in attendance last night…lots of kids under the weather.)
