Perhaps more than any other liturgical season, the season of Advent reminds us that we need help! It is a season that reminds us that we are in need of an intervention—a savior—someone who enters into our reality and lifts us up and out of the “muck” that we find ourselves trapped in. The “muck,” of course, is sin, and our Savior, of course, is Jesus Christ. In order for us to overcome the effects and dangers of sin, we need divine help. There is no such thing as lifting oneself up by one’s “spiritual bootstraps.”
To help you invite others to recognize our need for a Savior this Advent, Loyola Press has put together a bevy of Advent resources that you can access here. These include the following:
- Sacred Advent E-Mails
- Arts & Faith: Advent
- Advent Books
- Advent Calendars
- The Jesse Tree
- Prayers for Advent
Wow! Talk about “one-stop shopping!” But wait, there’s more!
Over the years, I, along with my Catechist’s Journey contributors, have assembled quite a number of Advent articles for your benefit and enrichment. Highlights include:
- Actively Waiting for Advent—Free Prayer Packet
- The Jesse Tree—Free PowerPoint Presentation
- 9 Advent Attitudes by Joe Paprocki
- Advent in the Classroom by Barb Gilman
- The Advent Prayer Grab Bag by Denise Gorss
- Advent: Of Elves or Angels? by Julianne Stanz
- Waiting and Preparation: Teaching Advent and Christmas by Joyce Donahue
- Waiting Is a Lesson in Advent by Lisa Jones
This Advent, let’s assist people in getting the divine help that we are all in need of from our Savior, Jesus Christ!
