Among the many things that parents teach their children is how to make decisions. Today, more than ever, young people have many options available to them when making decisions. While having options is a good thing, it also creates more stress and anxiety for young people: How do I choose what’s best for me? How do I know which choice is the right one? Recognizing that making important decisions is a crucial skill in life, Catholic Tradition has long emphasized the importance of discernment. Ignatian spirituality, in particular, teaches that God wants to play a role in our decisions and that, through discernment—a prayerful process of seeking the will of God in our lives—we can make decisions that are aligned with God’s will for us. In this episode of Pop-Up Catechesis, we explore how parents can help their children learn the art of discernment.
