Let’s help spread Pope Francis’s message of mercy by getting 100,000 people to order The Church of Mercy by April 25 so that it qualifies as a bestseller! To make that happen, order a copy (and get as many individuals to do the same) through Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, or your local bookseller.
Pope Francis has captured the world’s attention with his seemingly counterintuitive approach to leadership. In The Church of Mercy, readers get a first-hand look at Pope Francis’s vision of the good news of Christian hope and mercy.
Designed for a broad readership, The Church of Mercy is a compilation of essays, speeches, and homilies by Pope Francis—since his election one year ago—on being a church that exists among and for the people, solidarity with the poor, and the need to demolish the idols of power and money.
Viva il Papa!!!
As a physician, I have met many who have been sexually abused by priests. I believe that mercy is important. I also believe that accountability for crimes is important. I do not know why Pope Francis and previous popes have chosen to ignore the command of Jesus to protect the innocence of children and instead, have protected the predator clergy from the police. This is so wrong and so unChristlike. What would Jesus do? Jesus had harsh words for the person who would take the innocence from a child. Accountability is the right thing to do with the help of law enforcement. Where is the church’s mercy and restorative justice for the victims of clergy sexual abuse???
Thank you, Dr. McHugh for your comments…you are absolutely right that accountability for crimes, especially these crimes committed against children, is crucial. I continue to pray and call for the Church to be accountable for these abuses. Mercy demands justice…they go hand in hand.
