I’ve decided that I’m going to produce a video starring my fourth-grade class. Later this month, we have an open house for parents to attend part of their children’s class. I thought it would be a nice idea to film the students over the next couple of weeks as they do mini-demonstrations on the Ten Commandments and then show the video to the parents who attend the open house.
Last year, I put together Two-Minute Drills for the Ten Commandments. I’m going to do a variation of those, inviting the kids to work in pairs, doing a short demonstration that teaches us about each of the Commandments. I’m working on “scripts” right now and will share them with you when I’m done. The kids will rehearse and then be filmed so the repetition will help to reinforce the lesson of each Commandment. Finally, showing the video as a whole to the parents will serve as a review for the kids.
Of course to protect the privacy of my students, I won’t be sharing the video with you; it will only be for their parents to view. Now, where’s my director’s chair?

I like the idea of doing an Open House in January. Does your program do an Open House every January instead of at the beginning of the year? Thanks for sharing!
William, yes, our DRE plans it so that it dovetails with Catholic Schools Week each January since the parish refers to the RE program as the School of Religious Education.
