As I mentioned yesterday, I plan to videotape my students doing brief presentations/demonstrations on the Ten Commandments and then showing the video to the parents who attend the Open House later this month. Here are the scripts that I’ve prepared:
Ten Commandments Video Scripts
These scripts are adaptations of the Ten Commandments Two-Minute Drills that I did with my Confirmation class last year. Some of the adaptations were to make the activities more appropriate for 4th graders while other adaptations were to make the activities simpler for videotaping. As you read through the scripts, you’ll notice that some of the activities/demonstrations will requires some materials. I did not include a materials list on the scripts since I want them to be simple for the kids. Instead, I’ve created a separate materials list for your convenience. (File not available at present.)
If you hope to use these materials, let me know if you have any thoughts, questions, or suggestions after looking them over!
Joe, do the students take the lead on the narration or do you have one narrator? Do you ask different kids do different commandments? Thanks!
William, I plan on having kids work in pairs which means that each Commandment will have a different pair of kids assigned resulting in different narrators for each Commandment. Of course, I’ll have to have a few kids do “double-duty” since I only have 14 total. My goal is for every parent to see their child actively involved in the video.
Last Monday and the rest of our classes, we always give lessons to the kids about the ten commandments. Interesting, inspiring and deep bone felt by the kids. Thanks Joe, for your motivation. Happy New Year to you, and to all the catechist.
I am considering giving two commandments to each of our fourth grade classes to act out as skits for our open house, which is also in three weeks. My only concerns are that all will be able to see the small items, like magnet and pins. It’s a great idea to teach the commandments!
Nice idea, Nancy. Yes, the props are small. I’m personally considering having copies of the scripts available for the parents so that can read along and see what’s really happening.
Joe, I am blown away! All of my catechists will get a copy. I would like to do a presentation for the entire parish. We’ll most definitely credit you. THANK YOU!
Charlene, that sounds great! Good luck!
Thank you for sharing such a creative resource for teaching the 10 commandments. I plan to use it with our class tomorrow.
Blessings,
You’re welcome, Denise. I hope it goes well for you!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful presentation.. This will really be of great help to me when I’ll be teaching the Commandments… God bless!
thank you — these are brilliant. I plan to borrow/adapt some of these for our confirmation retreat this weekend. It is kind of you to share!
