As children age into teens, they continue to look to their parents and guardians for cues on how to act and think in a mature way. Even if they don’t seek out advice or seem to actively dismiss it, young people are just as eager for parental guidance as they were when learning to tie their shoes. The same is true in preparation for Confirmation, when young people look to their parents for guidance on how to take this next step in their spiritual lives. Some parents may feel out of their league when teaching the faith to their children, especially in preparation for such an important milestone in their life in the Church.
To that, I’m offering a free PowerPoint presentation to assist catechetical leaders in walking parents of Confirmation candidates through the background of the sacrament and the roles, the Rite of Confirmation, and what it means to share the gifts received from God.
This slideshow invites prayerful discussion around the sacrament so that families can connect over a shared journey to Confirmation. The presentation includes a script that you can adapt to your own situation. While inspired by the Confirmed in the Spirit program, the presentation will work with any program as it gathers parents to talk about Confirmation in an adult faith formation setting.
