Kids ask a lot of questions, such as, “Are we there yet?” Some of their questions are harder to answer than others, especially when they ask, “Why?” One of the questions that most children eventually ask is, “Why do we have to go to Mass?” Parents struggle to find all kinds of answers to convince their children that going to Mass is important and is a good thing but all too often end up telling their unconvinced children, “Because I said so!” In speaking with parents over the years about this challenge, I’ve finally landed on the only answer that I think cannot be disputed: “We go to Mass because we’re broken, and Jesus is the only one who can fix us.” In this episode of Pop-Up Catechesis, we explore this response to the question of, “Why do we have to go to Mass?”
