When I was a student at St. Ignatius College Prep, there was one room that I never explored: the teachers’ lounge. The teachers’ lounge was like a fortress or a sanctuary that no student was ever to enter (and rightly so). Several years later, when I returned to St. Ignatius to do my student teaching, I walked into the hallowed teachers’ lounge for the first time. There, to my astonishment, was my former Latin teacher, sitting on a couch with her feet up on a coffee table, smoking a cigarette! She was the epitome of a teacher taking a breather between classes. I quickly learned just how much every teacher valued the “sanctuary” of the teachers’ lounge, not only as a place to relax and “let their hair down,” but also to chat with colleagues about all things academic.
Now, you have a chance to enter into this sanctuary through a new podcast: Catholic Teachers’ Lounge—a podcast by Catholic teachers, for Catholic teachers (and catechists!). The podcast is hosted by lifelong educators Jill Annable and Colleen McCoy-Cejka, who riff and rave during their brief 10-minute episodes about great ideas, best practices, people to know, and things to do in the classroom. Their fun and friendly banter around teacher-generated ideas (possibly featuring your own!) will bring a smile to your face and energy to your lesson planning and teaching.
Tune in during your commute or between classes and feel the love you deserve for inspiring the next generation of students as a Catholic school teacher (or catechist!). Here is a list of episodes already available. Visit Catholic Teachers’ Lounge, and subscribe to the podcast mailing list.
