Catechist-at-Large

Hopefully, if I watch my weight, I won’t become a large catechist, however, this year, I’m going to serve as a type of “catechist-at-large.” Due to a number of commitments, I’m unable to have my own class this year, however, I am going to be doing the following at Most Holy Redeemer in Evergreen Park, IL:

  1. Teaching the Roman Missal changes (within the context of teaching about the Mass) to grades 1-8 in two separate presentations in mid-October. I’ll be using the very resources I’ve promoted here earlier.
  2. Teaching an introduction to the Bible to 6th graders in November using the approach outlined in my book, The Bible Blueprint.
  3. Visiting other catechists to observe them teach so that I can offer feedback to them as well as describe these experiences on my blog and what we can learn from their techniques and approaches. I’ve been talking about myself for almost 5 years here on my blog so I thought it was time to start talking about some other catechists! 🙂  My first visit will be in October to a 7th grade catechist named Dan. I’ll have more details in the days and weeks to come. By the way, if you’re a catechist in the Chicago area and would like me to visit your class this year (and you don’t mind me writing about the experience on my blog!), get in touch with me at paprocki@loyolapress.com.  We’ll see if we can find a date that works.

  1. I did this one year to promote Social Justice and Stewardship…. I rotated through the classes twice during the year. It was a way I could stay connected when my schedule wouldn’t allow me to teach every week. I found it very rewarding too!
