I hope you have your virtual bags packed and your virtual tickets in hand as we get ready to embark on a VIRTUAL Pilgrimage to Italy, beginning Monday, September 23!
As part of the Year of Faith, Pope Francis is hosting a Day for Catechists at the Vatican during the last week of September, 2013, culminating in the International Conference of Catechesis. A delegation of religious educators will be attending via a pilgrimage sponsored by the NCEA as well as other organizations from September 23 through September 30, 2013. For those of us unable to attend in person, I thought I would offer the opportunity to participate in a Virtual Pilgrimage, shadowing the folks from the U.S. as they journey to Rome, Siena, and Vatican City and participate in the International Conference of Catechesis.
Join me here on my blog each day beginning September 23 as we join in a virtual pilgrimage that will include “visits” and spiritual reflections on locations such as the Roman Fora, the Arch of Constantine, the Coliseum, the Catacombs, the Gothic streets of Siena including its cathedral, the Vatican Museum, the Sistene Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, the tomb of St. Peter, and Mass with the Holy Father. Along the way, we will get intermittent reports and photos from Dr. Joe Bound, the Director of Education for the Diocese of Green Bay, WI, who will be participating in the actual pilgrimage. Join us for this enjoyable virtual experience as we celebrate the ministry of catechesis during this Year of Faith!
For more background on the role of pilgrimages in Catholic life, below is a chapter on that very subject from my book, Practice Makes Catholic!
