Ah, there’s nothing like traveling through the cornfields of Illinois on my way downstate! My blog tour today takes me to the state capitol of Springfield where Jonathan Sullivan serves as the Diocesan Director of Catechetical Services. Anyone know who the bishop is down there? đŸ˜‰
I’ve spoken of Jonathan before on my blog and continue to admire him and see him as one of the brightest minds in catechetical ministry in our country today. It should come as no surprise then to know that I am tickled that Jonathan agreed to participate in my blog tour for Under the Influence of Jesus: The Transforming Experience of Encountering Christ, but also that he wrote such a great review of the book!
Jonathan chose to zero in on one particular chapter – a favorite of mine – in which I describe our tendency to get caught up in what I call “the Barabbas cycle” – the temptation of responding to the challenges of the world with bigger versions of the same “weapons” that the world is using against us. Jonathan writes:
Unfortunately too often we fall short of Christ’s call and fall prey to the temptation to fight fire with fire. Whether calling for preemptive war, making disparaging and uncharitable comments online, gossiping in the office, or playing politics while ignoring the common good, the ways of the world lead away from the cross and the Kingdom of God.
You can read Jonathan’s review of Under the Influence of Jesus here in its entirety.
Thanks, Jonathan!
P.S. Be sure to check out Jonathan’s Webinars Archive….great stuff!
