As you prepare your lessons for this week, you may want to include a little information about this coming Sunday’s canonization of 2 American saints: Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American saint, and Blessed Mother Marianne Cope, who spent the last 30 years of her life ministering to the sick on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. The canonization Mass will take place at the Vatican October 21, 2012.
Included among the seven total saints being canonized by Pope Benedict XVI this Sunday is also a catechist: Pedro Calungsod of the Philippines, who was martyred for his faith.
Joe, could you please send me a list of the seven being canonized and/or tell me where to located information about all seven for distribution to my Catechist. This year I have asked each Catechist to have a 5 minute talk on the Saint of the Day or week. This would be great to have them learn about the newly canonized. Blessings Janis
Here ya go, Janis. http://cnsblog.wordpress.com/2012/02/21/canonization-mass-in-october-will-bring-seven-new-saints/
Thanks Joe for mentioning Blessed Pedro Calungsod, a catechist from the Philippines among those to be canonized on Sunday! All parishes here in the Philippines are counting the days to his canonization. May there be more saintly and holy catechists!
