I’ve written previously about the importance of remaining connected with parents following the Baptism of their children and before the children reach catechetical age. Rather than simply requiring parents to attend a required class for Baptism and then check it off their list, we need to accompany them on their journey as they rise to the challenge of raising a family in today’s complex world.
I’d like to suggest one great way that we can accompany parents of young families on this journey: provide them with a copy of Julianne Stanz’s wonderful book, The Catholic Parents’ Survival Guide: Straight Answers to Your Kids’ Toughest Questions. Drawing from her own experience of raising three children, Julianne provides a practical user’s manual for talking with children about how to navigate life through the lens of the Catholic faith.
I hosted Julianne for a webinar on the topic of Catholic parenting that’s available to watch at your convenience, perhaps with a group of parents in your parish.
Let’s do more to accompany parents of young families and to help them build and strengthen the domestic church!
Is the Survival Guide available in Spanish?
Hi Ellen. At this point, it is not.
