We successfully completed our first free Catechist Training Webinar this evening! A great big THANK YOU to all of you who participated in this opportunity to look at basic skills that can help us to be more effective catechists.
We will have another session of Part One on Thursday, August 20, at 7:15 pm (CDT). There’s still room for you to register for that one: Click here.
Part Two will take place on Wednesday, August 26 at 7:15 pm (CDT) – registration is closed for that one – and again on Thursday, August 27 at 7:15 pm (CDT). There’s still time and space to register for that one too: Click here.
In the days to come on this blog, I will begin addressing questions that we didn’t get to during the live presentations.
Thanks again to all of you who participated and will be participating in these Webinars. What a great way to form a catechetical community. And above all, thanks be to God for making this all possible!
Thank you for taking the time, Joe! It is always great to get ideas from other Catechists. Not surprizingly, many of the questions I was considering asking were asked by others, which solidifies that we all share common challenges in this ministry.
Thanks you again and God bless you!
You’re most welcome, Carlos. You’re right about us sharing common challenges as well as common joys!
Hi Joe!
Thanks for the webinar. Great job (as always)! I’m a DRE for 2 parishes and I recommended the webinar to some of my catechists… I didn’t have time to notify all of them. I plan on telling them about this site. Loyola Press has been such a great resource.
Thanks, Jenn. I’m glad that you participated and told others about it. I am really enjoying the experience. Wow…DRE for 2 parishes! One is not enough, eh? 🙂
Hello Joe!
Thanks for the webinar! It is always an enrichment to listen to others points of view, ideas, questions, doubts! I had a really good time :)!
Blessings
Thanks, Maria! I had a good time too!

Lynn, thanks much and I’m glad you enjoyed the experience. You should be receiving a Thank You email when the Webinar’s sessions are over. You can show that to your DRE as “proof” of your participation.

I ALSO WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT I’M SORRY IF I’MBEING DIFFCULT ABOUT HAVING PROOF FOR MY DRE. IT WILL HELP
ME OUT.
THANK-YOU
LYNN
No problem, Lynn…thanks for participating!
I signed up for Part I and ended up watching on someone else’s computer. For Part II I have meetings already on both August 26 and 27 so I will not be able to participate in Part II UNLESS you are able sometime to offer it during a daytime hour. Is this a possibility? I enjoyed it and would love to be able to have all my catechists listen to it when I meet with them? Is this a possibility or will it be in the near future?
Hi Mary. Recordings of the Webinars will be made available after the live presentations are completed. I’ll post that info as soon as it becomes available. Stay tuned.
Thank you. You were able to cover so much in such a short hour. I teach 6th grade and particpate in a combination 6,7, 8 grade session once a month. My degree is not in education, so I look forward to events like this to gain as much as I can, so I can share my faith with my students. I think the most important thing I received from your lecture was to look for the BIG IDEA in each chapter, think about what I want the students to be doing. Sometimes it can be overwelming reading through a chapter and the Catechist guide and trying to come up with the activities you know your students will like. I always read the Gospel reading for the Sunday and discuss it. – For some children, this will be the only time they will hear it. Many thanks again.
Thank you, Joe, and to all who are responsible for this great opportunity to participate together with other fellow Catechists. I was apprehensive at first but the Catechist Training Webinar was so easy to follow and understand. I taught Confirmation, for 5 years. Grades 9, 10, and 11. It was a three year program and I was able to follow my students for the 3 years. Then I came to a crossroad and the Holy Spirit lead me to teach younger children. Something I thought I could never do. I taught 4th and 5th grades for two years. The Webinar Training helped me see where I was overextendeing. Now I feel confident that I can teach one idea in a variety of ways. I have been away from teaching. Moving from one Parish to another in another city. I miss teaching and feel it truly is my calling. What I have learned about my faith was through preparation of the lessons, through the week, up until the last minute. I feel amply prepared to be a far more effective Catechist, after the Webinar Training. It was a successful beginning. It is encouraging to hear what other Catechist are experiencing.
Corina, your comments are truly inspiring. Your attention to the promptings of the Holy Spirit is exemplary. I pray that you find an opportunity to pursue your vocation as a catechist and to effectively proclaim God’s Word to those you teach!
You have given me so many great ideas! I can’t wait to receive your books and I really look forward to next wks webinar. I teach 4th grade CCD, this will be my second year with this age group.
Thank you for this web site, it is so informative, and helpful.
Patricia, you’re very welcome!!!
Joe:
Thanks so much for the your efforts! Your approach will be most helpful for me when teaching my 9th grade Confirmation class. BTW, I will attempt to use your “Name That Song” quiz for teaching the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit. Even I remember some of those songs! I am looking forward to next week’s event!
God Bless and Pray Always
John K
Hey Cousin John! Good to hear from you. Thanks for participating in the Webinar and for your kind words. Let me know how the Name That Song activity goes for you and your Confirmandi. I’ll “see you” next week!
